Kevin: Go To a Conference

At the risk of "do as I say, not as I do" (as friends will note, I have been unable to attend a lot of conferences of late), Kevin makes a great point about attending conferences:



"With all the hoopla over FoxPro, no VFP 10, the petition, the signers, the non-signers, the reasons, the Roadmap and the need for "answers", there's one thing you can do to show Microsoft that VISUAL FOXPRO MATTERS: Go to a conference this year. Pick one, two, or even more. But most importantly, GO!!!"



And with the start of the Advisor Devcon (PLEASE- someone be blogging this) and the rest of the conference season, I second that statement. As well, if you're a conference or user group organizer or speaker and want to talk about your sessions on the FoxShow, please get in touch with me. While I may not be able to attend, I definitely want to promote these as great ways of reaching out to the rest of the community.



Rick Schummer does a great job of this with his regular Fox User group tour.



Prague - 19th - 21st June 2007 (noted by Eric as well)

FoxForward - Sept 7th-9th, 2007 (Alpharetta, Georgia)


Southwest Fox - October 18-21, 2007 (Arizona)


German Developer Conference  - November 8-10, 2007



This isn't to forget about all the great user group meetings that are up there as well! Check out the Wiki for all the details.



Hmmm....Canada seems to be missing from this list. That is something that has to be fixed!

Ooh! Ooh! I'm a conference organizer and I'd love to be on the FoxShow again!

I've gotta find a way to get the word out about FoxForward any way I can.

Last year, I had one gentleman call me the morning FoxForward had started to see if he could still register. He had just found out about the conference. {g}

I'm hoping to spend some time blogging about the conference while I'm there.

Unless I'm up all night every night "tweaking" my sessions. :)

Andrew - we'll happily welcome Canadians at Southwest Fox. In fact, one of our organizers is Canadian.

Doug (and Steve in Prague) keep the Canadian content alive.

I was just lamenting the lack of a Canadian-based FoxPro conference.

Merry Christmas

Whether you celebrate now, have already celebrated your past holiday, are planning to, or not, I hope you find yourself surrounded by family and those you love during this holiday season and are able to remember fondly those who are not with you. We often find ourselves buried in work, or too distracted by other problems, to share and remember a few moments with those closest to us. So many of us are separated by huge distances, we often find it easier to focus on those who are out of arm's reach yet so easy to connect with online, instead of those who are right beside us. Comparing education systems based on their technology

(yes, I originally found this blog because of Scoble's note on it BUT it was kind of interesting all the same) Read Alex Mallet's summary of his first week at MIT. Malletrivia: Summary of the first complete week Wow - "There's an incredible amount of material packed into each lecture" - and it sounds interesting... Compared to some of the lecture content I have seen at our universities, you really must get what you pay for. While it sounds like Alex is writing frantically down notes in his classes, at least he's finding something worth writing about in them. Case in point: one of our local universities ( Carleton ) puts some lecture classes on the TV (like many universities do) - but you would think they purposely find the most boring professors to teach them.
